A 16-foot giant fish was recently caught by a crew of fisherman in Chile, and a footage of the fish being lifted by a crane has appeared online.

The video clip shows the workers hooking the head of the lengthy, bony fish as they move it to the ground. The fish, known as an oarfish, reached more than five metres long, according to Daily Star.

The video was initially released on TikTok, where it apparently received close to 10 million views before being spread on other social media sites. People expressed anxiety about the post because the species is typically seen to be a terrible omen for earthquakes and tsunamis.

Due to its alleged prophecy-predicting abilities, the uncommon deep-water fish has made headlines, particularly since 2011 when many of the creatures were discovered in Japan before the catastrophic Fukushima disaster.

For this reason, a lot of people think that this species causes earthquakes. Although science has never verified this notion, local authorities now need to take into account what caused the fish to surface.
