Sparrows will provide onshore engineering, resident focal points, and operations and maintenance services for the installation.

Serica Energy has awarded a contract to the engineering and maintenance services firm Sparrows Group for crane operations and maintenance services on the Bruce platform, in the UK North Sea.

Under the contract, Sparrows will be responsible for providing onshore engineering, resident focal points, and operations and maintenance services including engineering and technical support on site, refurbishment, and repairs.

The scope of the contract also includes lifting equipment inspection.

The Bruce complex comprises three bridge-linked platforms: a production, utilities and quarters platform, a drilling platform, and a compression/reception platform.

Sparrows has been under contract with Serica Energy since the latter took over the operatorship of the Bruce, Keith, and Rhum natural gas fields in the UK North Sea in 2018. The three fields are connected to Bruce production platform.

Serica acquired the stake in the fields from BP, Total E&P UK, BHP Billiton Petroleum Great Britain, and Marubeni Oil & Gas (UK).

Prior to the ownership change, Sparrows worked with BP for more than two decades on the installation.

Sparrows CEO Stewart Mitchellsaid: “We’ve had a positive start to 2022, this contract extension, and additional scope for personnel, really demonstrates the confidence and trust that Serica Energy has in Sparrows and our offering.

“We’ve been working on the Bruce platform since the late 90s and have a lot of historical knowledge of the asset. We’re delighted to continue our legacy there, with renewed crane operation and maintenance services for the coming years.”

In 2021, the company secured a contract to provide additional maintenance riggers to complement the existing contract. This included operators and lifting competent persons (LCPs).

Last year, Sparrows was also selected by India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation to refurbish eight offshore pedestal cranes.
