CALGARY — Canadian Pacific and Canadian Tire Corp Ltd. have signed a multi-year agreement for the railroad to continue moving the retailer’s goods in Canada.

As part of the agreement, and to support Canadian Tires’ desire for efficient transportation and to reduce carbon emissions, CP will begin serving Ashcroft Terminal in Ashcroft, British Columbia. This will reduce the need to shift cargo to trucks.

“CP is proud to continue our near-century-long commercial relationship with Canadian Tire, another iconic Canadian brand,” CP CEO Keith Creel said in a press release. “As the single largest container importer in Canada, [Canadian Tire] will benefit from CP’s leading service, reliability and network capacity across Canada.”

Canadian Tire is a diverse retail company with more than 1,700 retail locations, including a chain of department stores and a number of specialty companies, as well as real estate, marketing, supply chain, and financial services.

“CP has been one of our most trusted and long-standing partners, and played an important role in the company’s early growth,” Canadian Tire CEO Greg Hicks said. “As we embark on our 100th year in business, we are pleased to continue working together with CP to ensure our products move efficiently across the country to meet our customers’ needs.”

“As the single largest container importer in Canada”, I still am waiting for the name to be changed to CHINA TIRE. I remember back in the 60’s and 70’s when the majority of items were made in Canada or the United States.
